Roasted garlic is one of those simple kitchen wonders that transforms an everyday ingredient into something magical. As it bakes, garlic mellows into a sweet, nutty, buttery spread that can elevate just about anything—from crusty bread and mashed potatoes to pastas and soups. If you’ve never tried roasting garlic before, this easy method using a garlic baker is the perfect way to get started. It takes minimal prep and delivers maximum flavor.
Ingredients:
-
1–2 heads of garlic
-
Olive oil
-
Salt & pepper (optional)
Instructions:
-
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
-
Slice about 1/4 inch off the tops of the garlic heads to expose the cloves. Gently peel away 2–3 layers of the outer papery skin, but leave enough to keep the bulb intact.
-
Place the garlic heads cut-side up into your garlic baker or a small ceramic baking dish.
-
Drizzle with a little olive oil, making sure it seeps into the exposed cloves. Sprinkle with a pinch of salt and pepper if desired.
-
Cover with the lid and roast in the oven for 30–45 minutes, depending on the size of the garlic heads.
-
You’ll know it’s done when your kitchen smells amazing and the cloves are soft, golden, and spreadable like warm butter.
Let the roasted garlic cool slightly, then squeeze the cloves out of their skins. Spread it on toast, mix it into butter or olive oil for a quick garlic spread, or stir it into mashed potatoes, soups, pasta dishes, or anything that needs a boost of rich, savory flavor.
Roasted garlic is a simple pleasure with endless uses. Once you try it, you might find yourself roasting a batch every week—it’s that good. Keep a few heads on hand and discover all the delicious ways you can use them!
